Brief History:
Al Aqur East South Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in the Sultanate of Oman, located in East South of Quriyat. It is believed to have been built around the 11th century AD and renovated several times since then. The mosque is known for its ancient architectural features, including its four central towers, intricate stucco decoration, and delicate painted finishes on the facades. The mosque is said to have been built by the Imam of Omani coastal tribes, and is arguably the most revered of the old mosques for its religious significance. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Aqur East South Mosque in Oman has been a popular place of worship since the year 1693. The mosque is built in an amalgamation of Islamic, Persian, and Omani architectural styles. The building is constructed with blocks of white stone, adding to the beautiful aesthetic of the mosque. The entrance gate is decorated with floral decorations and columns. The courtyard of the mosque is surrounded by a series of arches and columns. Inside the main prayer hall, the walls are decorated with intricate Islamic patterns and motifs as well as inscriptions from the Quran. The interior walls of the mosque are mostly white but are also adorned with vibrant colors that reflect the Arab culture and beliefs. The mosque is also home to a library, a pond, and a wind tower. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

The mosque is located near the Al Khuwair North roundabout and the Al Khuwair South roundabout. It can be accessed via Al Aqur Road, which runs east-west through the district. The mosque is open to worshippers and visitors from sunrise to sunset. Public transportation is available in the form of a taxi or bus service.
