Al Ajyal West North Mosque is one of the largest mosques in Muscat, Oman. This mosque was built in the year 2005, and it is the largest mosque in Oman. It has a capacity of up to 5000 worshippers. This Mosque was mainly built upon the vision and insistence of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said. It was located in the Al Khuwair district of Muscat near the Royal Omani Air Force base, and it is one of the most important places for Islamic worship in the country. This mosque is in a unique way architecturally, for it is built in the form of a dome, with a large courtyard and two floors at the centre. It also offers many facilities like lecture halls, library, multi-purpose halls, sports hall, classrooms and prayer rooms. The Al Ajyal West North Mosque is located in Muscat, Oman. The mosque was designed and built by Zeev Rechter Architects. The design of the mosque incorporates traditional Islamic art and architecture, but also takes its cues from modernist compositions and technology. It features a combination of ornamental facades, Islamic geometric patterns, and contemporary details. The main building is a large rectangular structure, and two side wings form two triangles at the front. The roof of the mosque is covered in a traditional dome with calligraphy and geometric patterns. The walls of the mosque are finished with plaster and machine cut stone. Inside, a prayer hall is set between two main floors, with a total capacity to accommodate 1,100 worshippers. The mosque is designed to integrate natural ventilation, and no air conditioning system is needed. The mosque also features a fully equipped kitchen, ablution facilities, and an open courtyard for activities such as Koran readings and lectures. Visiting Hours:
Al Ajyal West North Mosque is open 7 days a week, from 8:00am to 7:00pm. The mosque has a policy of closing the doors to visitors fifteen minutes before prayer time throughout the week. Additionally, the mosque is closed for cleaning and maintenance between 1:00pm and 2:00pm.
