ECWA Church 1 began in Minna, Nigeria in 1973 when a Christian group split from ECWA's evangelical mission and established their own church. This group felt that the traditional interpretation of Christianity was too rigid and wanted to create space for different theological perspectives while still remaining a part of the larger ECWA community. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Nigeria.
