The church began in 1746 when the Dutch Reformed Church was established in Nigeria by the Dutch traders working in the area. This church was initially located in Lagos. Over the years, the Christian Reformed Church Nigeria has evolved to become an independent denomination, focusing on preaching and teaching the Christian faith. The church is considered one of the most conservative of Protestant denominations in Nigeria, and is known for its adherence to traditional doctrine and Reformed practices. The church holds to the doctrines of total depravity of human nature, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace and perseverance of the saints. Christian Reformed Church Nigeria hosts regular worship services and conducts outreach activities, such as Bible studies, prayer meetings, and lectures. The church also hosts conferences and retreats to promote biblical understanding and spiritual renewal. It supports missionaries, conducts pastoral training seminars, and provides educational and financial assistance to disadvantaged members of the church.
