Frank Ikenna Amaegbu, traveled from nearby Ahiazu Mbaise to Owerri in search of land to build a Lutheran church. After many months of searching, they eventually received the blessing and agreement of the community leaders for the church to be built on the selected site. The church was designed and built with the help of the missionaries and construction experts from Germany. The cathedral was officially opened on June 12, 1966, and was dedicated by the Rev.W.
