History:
, Manakkattu Devi Temple is a Hindu temple located in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. It is located near Menonpara in Kudappanamoodu Panchayat and is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali, who is also known as Manakkattu Bhagavathi. The temple is one of the 108 Durga temples established by Lord Parasurama. Legend has it that Lord Parasurama went into deep contemplation and a divine light flashed from his third eye. To contain the light, he offered prayers to Lord Shiva and created an idol of Manakkattu Bhagavathi. According to the customs, the deity is believed to be self-manifested on a peepal tree that was here before the temple was established. The architecture of the temple is similar to other Bhadrakali temples in Kerala, with a sanctum sanctorum and surrounding Granthashala. The temple premises also include a number of other deities like Lord Shiva, Lord Ganapathi, Naga Raja, Yakshi and Bhairava. A Garuda sculpture with open wings is placed above the sanctum sanctorum. The main festival celebrated at the temple is MavelaThingal, which is held in the Malayalam month of Kumbhom (February-March). During this time, there are special poojas and cultural programs are conducted in honor of the goddess. It is believed that the deities will come alive and perform the rituals for the pilgrims. The temple is open to devotees from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day. Special poojas and rituals are also conducted for the devotees.
