The Malamakkavu Ayyappa Temple in Kerala follows the traditional practice of offering puja to the deity, Ayyappa. The main offering to the deity consists of abhishekam (bathing the deity with sacred water), lighting of the diyas, offering of flowers and fruits, performing the traditional Ayyappa pooja, and singing bhajans (devotional songs). During the puja, devotees chant various mantras and sing slokas praising Lord Ayyappa. A aarti (ritual prayer) is performed to end the puja. Special offerings are made on important festivals such as Mandalakala pooja, Thaipooyam, and Makaravilakku. As part of the annual ritual, the village community also donate 108 large coconuts to the deity.
