Kanifnath Temple in Pune, Maharashtra follows a simple and balanced practice of worship. Every morning, the temple opens at 6 a.m. and is closed in the evening at 8 p.m. Abhishek, i.e. the ceremonial washing of the shivling or main deity (Lord Shiva) is done every morning and evening with five symbols - milk, curds, honey, ghee (clarified butter) and water. Besides this, each Shiva-lingam is also washed with water, flowers and incense. On special occasions such as Shivratri, additional rituals are performed such as Bhasmarti, maha-aarti, havan (offering of fire) and a chariot procession.
