History:
Qasr Kharana was built sometime between 639 and 653 for the purpose of providing shelter and protection to traveling merchants, pilgrims and traders of caravans. It was initially used as a resting point on long journeys across the desert and eventually became a caravan stop. The castle was later abandoned and left in ruins.
