Dana Biosphere Reserve is a large protected area located in the South of Jordan in the Ma'an Governorate. It is part of the larger Dana Protected Area, which includes three other nature reserves, two historical sites, two natural monuments, and four archaeological and cultural sites. History:

Established in 1989, the Dana Biosphere Reserve is the first biosphere reserve in Jordan and the Middle East. It covers an area of 312 km2 and was made up of three different villages which were abandoned in the late 19th century and only recently resettled. The villages, Dana, Feynan (Fayan) and Shobek, were established by the Bedouin to provide permanent settlements for their livestock. The abandonment of these villages resulted in the repopulation of local flora and fauna to the pre-harvested state, restoring the area's original biodiversity. Dana Biosphere Reserve is the largest nature reserve in Jordan and the second largest in the Middle East. It has an impressive variety of ecosystems, including dry and semi-arid shrublands, evergreen and oak forests, and limestone cliffs. The area is home to more than 500 plant species, 25 mammals, 8 amphibians, 15 reptiles, and over 120 resident and migratory birds. Services:

The Reserve offers a variety of hikes, mule treks, camping areas and activities such as birdwatching, botany walks and cultural visits. In addition, the Reserve's ecotourism association collaborates with local schools, universities and international programs to develop a range of educational activities and awareness campaigns. Dana Biosphere Reserve has also established a Ranger Station that oversees the protection and monitoring of the natural and cultural heritage preserved within the Reserve.This beautiful church in Jordan has made a lot of significance in the past.
