History:
The history of Al-Maghtas dates back to Late Roman period in the 4th and 5th centuries, when Christians began to believe it was here that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. By the 5th century, the location had become a popular pilgrimage site and a number of churches were built on the site. In the 15th century, a series of renovations began to transform the area into a fortified site and evidence of early hospitality buildings have been found at the site. Al-Maghtas This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jordan.
