History:

It is believed that the Church of St. John the Baptist was built in the 4th century AD to commemorate the place of birth of the saint. In the 12th century, a Latin chapel was added, and in the 16th century the church was converted to a Franciscan and was given a second nave, with the main nave dedicated to St. John the Baptist and the second devoted to Mary, mother of Jesus. The current facade is believed to date back to the 18th century, although it was restored in 2011. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jerusalem.
