History:

1. Dargah Baba Ghulam Shah Qadri is situated in Chiri-Kote village of district Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. 2. The shrine is dedicated to the Sufi saint Baba Ghulam Shah Qadri, who is believed to have arrived in Jammu and Kashmir during the rule of Mughal emperor Emperor Akbar. 3. It is believed that Baba Ghulam Shah offered prayers and performed ‘ugheen’ (qawwali singing) at the present site of the shrine. 4. The construction of the shrine began in 1553 AD during the rule of Mughal emperor Humayun and took completion in 1558 AD. 5. Every year, Urs (annual death anniversary) of Baba Ghulam Shah is celebrated from 7th to 10th of July with great zeal and grandeur. 6. Along with a grand procession carrying 'chaddar`, local artists and singers perform Uggheen on the shrine to pay homage to the sufi saint. 7. Pilgrims from all over the world visit the shrine for spiritual blessings of the saint. There are also shops around the shrine that sell religious items and attar (perfume). 8. A huge ‘Jora’ (ceremonial procession) is organised during the four-day Urs to pay respects to the saint. Pilgrims get traditional food for free during the fair. The traditional method of worship at the Dargah Baba Ghulam Shah Qadri in Jammu-and-Kashmir is much similar to the form of worship that is practiced in other Sufi shrines found throughout India. Visitors to the shrine will usually offer flowers, incense, sweets, and prayers. These offerings may be placed directly onto the shrine or offered in prayer before the shrine.
