The parish began in 1967 when Father John Grow was installed as the founding pastor. Father Grow took on the charge of leading the new community from its meager beginnings of less than 25 members. Shortly after, St. Joseph's school was founded and has grown over the years to serve families of all faiths. The Sisters of St. Francis have been part of the parish since 1978 and serve as an example of the great faith and commitment of the parish. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jamaica.
