Cathedral of St. Jago de la Vega is a Roman Catholic basilica and cathedral located in Spanish Town, Jamaica. It is the seat of the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Spanish Town. It is one of the oldest churches in Jamaica. It is one of the best churches in Jamaica which you must visit.

History:

The cathedral was established around 1518 when the first Spanish settlers arrived in Jamaica. The first church building was constructed in 1527 and was dedicated to Saint James the Apostle (St. Jago de la Vega). The original building was destroyed by an earthquake in 1692 and a new one was built. This building was destroyed again in 1712 during an earthquake and then was rebuilt in 1714. In 1801 a new church was built to replace the old one. This building underwent a major renovation in 1926 and still stands today. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jamaica.
