Built in the 19th century, it is the oldest surviving domestic chapel in the Caribbean. The Devon House Chapel is the only surviving domestic chapel in Jamaica. It was constructed in 1867 by the Chamber and Tait families, in memory of Elizabeth Tait, the mother of Admiral Charles Tait and wife of plantation owner, Reverend Charles Chamber. The Chamber and Tait families were esteemed members of Kingston’s English colonial society in the 19th century.
