The mosque has two grand courtyards, a main prayer hall with twelve pillars, and a tiled iwan (enclosed alcove). The Jameh Mosque of Shahrekord, usually referred to in Persian as Masjed-e Jameh Atiq, is a historic mosque and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the city of Shahrekord, Iran. It is believed to have been built during the Seljuk period, although it has been renovated several times since then, with the most recent renovation occurring in the 1950s. Its architecture is traditionally Iranian with a few modifications in the symmetrical composition of the planar facade. The mosque's plan is divided into two courts, the outer being rectangular and the inner being circular. The outer court measures 29.2 by 19.4 meters, and is surrounded by a four-bayed portico with massive piers. The outer court leads to the four main entrances of the inner court, which is approximately the same size as the outer court. Inside the inner court is a low dome panels in four main sections. This dome houses the main prayer hall that serves as the focus and focal point for the entirety of the mosque. This central prayer hall is flanked by two separate wings on either side. This mosque is known for its ornamentation, mainly in the form of decorative brickwork. There are also some elements of stucco decoration, such as the Quranic inscriptions, which are inscribed in the tranquil recess of the double vaulted bays. There is also intricate tilework, primarily seen in the entrance iwans and the muqarnas arches. The ceilings of the mosque are composed mainly of muqarnas, and there is a particularly impressive čelebi dome in the central court. The overall character of the mosque is largely traditional in design, but two modern elements have been added to the mosque. The first is the addition of a modern minaret which is set in a recess behind the čelebi dome, and the second is the use of electric lighting to illuminate the mosque.
