Brief History:
The Jameh Mosque of Kermanshah in Iran is one of the oldest and most important mosques in the city's history. It is believed that the mosque was originally built during the Sasanid period as a Zoroastrian fire temple, and that it was later converted to a mosque when Muslims conquered the region during the 7th century. The mosque was rebuilt several times during the ensuing centuries and has several architectural styles. The current building dates back to the 18th century and is composed of four iwans, a large central courtyard, and a set of minarets. The mosque also features an octagonal tiled dome, intricate stucco work, and an impressive mihrab decorated with blue and turquoise tiles. It is one of the most famous mosque in Iran which you must visit.
Architecture:
Jameh Mosque of Kermanshah in Iran is a complex of Iranian mosques located in the tradition Shiite mausoleum, Ziyar. The complex includes buildings from the Qajar (1785–1925), Safavid (1501–1722), Afsharid (1736–1796), Ottoman (1299–1922), and Buyid (934–1055) periods. The most dominant feature is the grand mosque, which was constructed in 1218 and later restored by Shah Abbas II in 1606. This large mosque is distinguished by its four courtyards, high minarets and arches, and 130 domes. The prayer space of the mosque is a rectangular position with rows of iwans (covered rooms) and access to the gardens. Inside the mosque, visitors can find various calligraphic inscriptions and a marble-laid courtyard. There are also two madrasahs (schools) located within the mosque complex which were built in the early 15th century. The complex is well known for its unique mix of traditional Iranian and Arab architectural styles. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
