Brief History:
: The Jāmeh Mosque of Marāgheh dates back to 1278 CE when it was constructed by the Ilkhanid ruler Arghun. It has since been restored and underwent major renovations during the Safavid era. The mosque offers a unique mix of Iranian architectural styles including the Seljuk-style turquoise blue tile works, muqarnas, and an octagonal shaped minaret adorned with inscriptions. The mosque also contains a library containing rare Islamic manuscripts which date back to the 5th century. It is one of the most famous mosque in Iran which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Jameh Mosque of Maragheh is one of the most important religious monuments of the Seljuk dynasty, built in 1249. It stands out among Iranian mosques both for its 1367meters perimeter and also for its complex and distinctive design. It is said that its unusual physical shape has been inspired by the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba in Spain. The mosque is rectangular in shape and is made up of six courtyards and two iwans (a doorway facing a courtyard). The two main iwans are decorated with outstanding tiers of stalactite work reflecting the constructions of that period, which still remain in their original form. It also includes two minarets, four portals, four porches, two water reservoirs and a library inside the mosque complex. Additionally, its two stepped minarets formally inscribed on the World Heritage list in 2018. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

Travel Information:
Jameh Mosque of Maragheh is located in Iran in the North West Azarbaijan province. The closest airport is the Tabriz International Airport. From there, it is approximately 190 km to Maragheh. The nearest and most convenient way to travel to Maragheh from Tabriz is by taxi. The journey takes about 3 hours. Another option is to take the bus which leaves Tabriz at certain times throughout the day. The journey takes about 5 hours. It is also possible to travel to Maragheh by train, but the journey takes longer and the connection is not as frequent. beautiful masjid.
