The mosque is historically significant for being one of the largest and oldest mosques in Iran, with a construction date estimated to be around the 8th century CE (14th century AH) and the oldest surviving parts of the mosque date back to the 11th century CE. The Jameh Mosque of Kerman (Jadeed) is the largest and oldest mosque in the city of Kerman, Iran. It was built in the 10th century by Amir Arsalan Hanzaleh, who also constructed a series of fortifications around the city. The mosque consists of an inner court surrounded by four iwans, two on either side. The main entrance is at the east side while the south iwan serves as an entrance for women. Inside, there are two prayer halls and the most impressive feature is the prayer hall with 24 domes. The lower part of the walls are covered with turquoise tiles and the upper parts are adorned with paintings and calligraphy. This mosque also contains a library, a madrasa, and a number of small chambers. The mosque has been renovated and rebuilt many times over the years. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
