The Jameh Mosque of Gorgan is a historic mosque which dates back to the 11th century. The mosque is built in an interesting combination of styles, combining features from both Persian and Turkic architecture. The mosque's foundation walls are made of red bricks and its main entrance gate features a two-storey-high half-dome arch that is decorated with haft-rangi tiles. The main structure stands on a platform with an octagonal tower in the middle. Inside the main structure, there are four narrow iwans, two built on the eastern and two on the western side. Each iwan is adorned with stucco decorations and the walls are decorated with beautiful tilework. The courtyard of the mosque is surrounded by a number of arcades and the main entrance to the mosque is located at the southern end of the courtyard. The arcades are made of baked stones and decorated with muqarnas and a few stone columns. The roof is also decorated with intricate tilework of different shapes and colors. The dome of the mosque is adorned with turquoise tiles and features nine windows, each in different shapes and decorated with ornamental designs. In addition, the mosque features two minarets, built in an ornamental style and decorated with turquoise and white tiles.
