Brief History:

The design of the mosque was inspired by the historical Al-Khani Mosque in Baghdad, Iraq. The architectural design of Masjid Raya Samarinda is unique and impressive. The masjid, which is located in the center of Samarinda, consists of a large domed mosque building surrounded by several smaller prayer rooms and an administrative building. The prayer room of the masjid is designed with three major parts: the praying area, the Imam Majidi room, and the minbar. The exterior of the Masjid Raya features several minarets, built in a four-tiered structure that adds to its grandiose look. The domes of the mosque are luminous and the interior is richly adorned with lavish decorations. The overall feel of the mosque is one of grandeur and sophistication. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
