The mosque was intended to be both a religious and cultural site, as it is the largest and most prominent mosque in the entire Province of Central Kalimantan. The mosque was designed to resemble an Umayyad mosque in Damascus, Syria, using local materials for designing and constructing the structure’s walls. The mosque is located in the center of Palangka Raya, the capital of Central Kalimantan, and it is a major gathering spot for locals to socialize and for tourists to observe as they explore the vibrant city. The building is composed of two floors, with the first floor consisting of a large mosque and courtyard with separate compartments for men and women to pray, a library, lecture halls, and a nursery.
