The Grand Mosque of Muhammad Cheng Hoo, also known as Surabaya Mosque, is an Islamic place of worship in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. It is the largest and oldest mosque in Surabaya and the largest in East Java. The mosque is noted for its complex Chinese-influenced architecture. The building was commissioned by wealthy Chinese-Indonesian merchant and philanthropist, Na Akew Sugiand. The mosque has a height of about 16 meters (51 ft). Unlike most mosques, it is built in rectangular shape with two separate prayer halls. The main building is two-storied, with the first floor containing a vast prayer room and the second floor containing a small domed chamber where the imam gives the sermon. There are five minarets, four on the outer corners of the building, and one at the entrance. The building is topped with a multi-tiered golden pagoda. The inside of the mosque is adorned with colorful Chinese-style wallpaper, and there is a prominent Chinese pagoda located in the corner. The walls of the building are decorated with floral and geometric designs. The main prayer hall is painted in vibrant green and red. The mosque is part of an Islamic Complex and is surrounded by many other buildings including an office, a library, a museum, and other structures.
