: Baiturrahim Mosque is a famous attraction located in Surabaya, Indonesia. It was built in 1645 by an army of the Banten Sultanate and completed in 1812. The mosque has a large tri-tiered dome and two minarets, each 45 meters. It is believed that the mosque was built to symbolize the Sultanate’s greatness and splendour. Today, it is a major religious and cultural landmark in Surabaya and a favorite for tourists. Architecture:

The Baiturrahim Mosque of Surabaya is an eighteenth century mosque built during the Dutch colonial period in Indonesia. The architectural style of the building blends traditional Islamic architecture with Dutch colonial influences, creating a unique and elegant mosque. The mosque is composed of an open prayer hall, a mezzanine floor, a large prayer hall, and an accessible balcony. The building is directly surrounded by open terraces which in turn lead to a large courtyard. The open prayer hall faces the main entrance and is accessible via four large doors. The hall is covered with a three-tiered five-sided cupola, which is supported by four large domed minarets. The prayer hall consists of a central mihrab (niche) that points towards the qibla (direction of prayer), and is flanked by four minarets that are covered with a green and gold geometric mosaic. On the right side of the hall is a built-in platform for the Muhrim (male-only prayer leader). The mezzanine floor is located on the second level and can be accessed via stairs in the prayer hall. This level contains two small rooms, one for washing before prayers and one for reading the Qur'an. The large prayer hall is on the third level and can be accessed via an outside stairwell. The prayer hall consists of a large mihrab and minbar (pulpit) at its center, flanked by sixteen columns. The walls of the prayer hall are decorated with floral and geometrical designs; the floor is covered with a red and white marble mosaic. The outer balcony of the mosque is accessible via a separate entrance on one side of the building. From here, visitors can admire the open terraces and courtyard of the mosque.
