Baiturrahim Mosque - Padang in Indonesia is the oldest mosque in Padang and West Sumatra. The two-storey mosque was founded in 1679 by Sultan Anom Pangeran Adipati Padri. The largest dome is 18m in diameter with a height of 23m. This is the highest dome in the city of Padang. The other two domes measure 9m in diameter and 5.5m respectively and have a height of 12m. The main prayer hall is decorated with floral motifs and Mughal-style calligraphy. The main hall has 24 marble pillars supporting beautiful domes and its walls feature a plethora of tiled surfaces with floral designs and Arabic inscriptions. The floors are made of teak wood and are covered with intricate designs and beautiful carpets. The mosque has several features which reflect a variety of cultural and artistic styles. For example, the large dome is decorated with Chinese porcelain tiles imported from China as a symbol of cross-cultural exchange. Additionally, the complex also features a library, an auditorium, and a computer center.
