Tomb of Sikandarshah In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
f Sikandarshah is a royal mausoleum located in Delhi, India. The tomb was built by Feroze Shah Tughlaq in 1377AD to pay homage to his brother, Sikandar Shah Tughlaq. The tomb is situated alongside a lake, inside the ruins of Feroze Shah KotlaFort. The building is ornamented with Arabic calligraphy, which provides a beautiful contrast to its plain exterior walls. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The most prominent feature of the tomb is its double dome, with three entrances guarded by carved sandstone pillars and decorated with lattice windows. The dome is topped with an ornamental finial, which is decorated with floral motifs. The central chamber of the tomb contains the remains of the famous warrior, Sikandar Shah Tughlaq. The chamber also houses several historical artifacts, including coins from different periods of Mughal dynasties, stone inscriptions, and a book written by Sheik Bahauddin Zakariya Multani. • The tombs at the tomb of Sikandarshah are said to be the resting places of several of Delhi's notable citizens, including politician Syed Abdulrahman, poet Kazi Sahib, and theologian Abdul Qadir Jilani. • The entrance to the tomb is said to have been designed by Iltutmish, the Islamic conqueror of northern India. • Despite its age, the tomb of Sikandarshah maintains a remarkably well-preserved state, due to its placement within the walls of Feroze Shah Kotla. • The tomb is said to be haunted by the ghost of a prophetess writer of the time.
