Overview:
Tomb of Shamsher Khan is an ancient tomb located in the city of Bharuch in Gujarat, India. The tomb was built in 1592 AD by the Sultan of Gujarat, Shamsher Khan, in honour of his father. It is one of the notable attractions in Bharuch and the centerpiece of a historic complex that includes many other tombs, mosques and shrines. The Tomb of Shamsher Khan is considered to be an architectural masterpiece, and is an excellent example of Islamic architecture and craftsmanship. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Tomb of Shamsher Khan is a domed mausoleum situated on an elevated platform. The entrance is flanked by two large gateways with intricately carved stonework that is covered with calligraphic accents. Inside, there is a finely decorated chamber to commemorate the Sultan and on the western wall there is an alcove and behind the alcove is a platform on which the Sultan would sit. It is believed that the Sultan used to rest in the alcove located on the western wall of the tomb. 5.
