Overview:
Tomb of Isa Khan is a 16th-century Mughal era monument located in Nizamuddin, New Delhi, India. It is situated in the Archaeological Park, near Humayun's Tomb and the Nizamuddin Dargah. The tomb was built in 1547 CE by Isa Khan Niyazi, a noble in Sher Shah Suri's court of the Suri dynasty. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Tomb of Isa Khan is a unique octagonal design structure representing the era of Indian architecture. The entrance is beautifully decorated with intricate carvings and vibrant frescoes, which was once coated with fragments of stained-glass. The monument stands upon a 5 metres high podium and has a double-storeyed enclosure with a seven-arched facade and six bay deep verandah in each storey. 1. The tombs of Isa Khan, Darya Khan and Fazal Khan, who were all members of the same family, can be found in the same courtyard of the Archaeological Park. 2. The intricately carved inverted lotus designs and floral motifs on the exterior of the tomb are inspired by the Islamic architecture of Central Asia. 3.
