Overview:
Sundaresvara Temple With Sub-Shrines, Tirukkattalai is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in the Tirukkattalai district of Tamil Nadu, India. Constructed between 7th - 10th century AD, it is the most important of the five shrines of the Aukavur Group located in and around Tirukkattalai. This group includes temples dedicated to Sri Sundaresvara, Sri Kailasanatha, Sri Gandhiyana Vinayakar, Sri Kamalavalli, and Sri Somanathaswamy. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Sundaresvara Temple is the largest and most important temple in the Aukavhur temple complex. It has various stone and brick structures from different periods surrounding it, including the main temple with majestic sculptured towers, the veeraswamy mandapa, the pillared ambulatory and the main shrine.
