St. Mary's Church is an Anglican church and the daughter church of St. George's Cathedral located in Chennai, India. It is an old church, built in 1772, when the city was called Madras by the British. The Church is considered as the oldest in Chennai city and is one of the oldest active churches in India. The church has undergone several renovations over the centuries. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.

History:

The church features an elegant, white stone structure with three large arched doorways, two fifty-foot high towers and four single story side wings. St. Mary's Church was built in 1772 at the behest of the then Governor of Madras, Sir John Aden. It is said that worship was first conducted in the Church building that same year. The Church was further renovated in 1837 and 1886. In the late 19th century, portions of the Church were again renovated. The Church was re-consecrated in 2007.
