Valayankuttai Ratha is a small monolithic temple located in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. It is one of the five temples which together form the Pancha Rathas, also known as the Five Chariots. This temple is one of the most unique architectural structures of South India.

Valayankuttai Ratha is a monolithic structure, made of a single piece of granite. It is known for its architectural excellence and beauty. The structure stands three storeys tall, and the topmost storey has an area of just 10 square metres. At the base, the structure measures 8 metres in length, 3 metres in width and 8 metres in height. The walls and roof of the temple are decorated with finely carved sculptures of Lord Vishnu, which have been said to have been influenced by the Dravidian style of architecture.
History
The temple is believed to have been built during the rule of the Pallavas dynasty in the 7th century AD. It is also believed that the temple was commissioned by Narasimhavarman I, a ruler of the Pallava dynasty.

The temple is believed to be dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is said to have transformed himself into the form of a chariot in the battle between him and Hiranyakashipu. The temple is also said to have been built as a tribute to honour the victory of Lord Vishnu.
