Brief History:
Shahi Masjid in Bikaner, Rajasthan was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1633. It is a dazzlingly white marble mosque that has five domes covered with white marble. The Rajput style elements such as carved columns and arches are influences from the nearby Ajmeri Gate. The mosque is an important landmark in the city and is visited by hundreds of tourists from all over the world. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Shahi Masjid in Bikaner is one of the more grand and impressive Mughal monuments in India. Built between 1590 and 1612 by the Mughal ruler Sultan Ajit Singh, the mosque is an example of the traditional Timurid style of architecture. The mosque is distinguished by its impressive central dome, which is flanked by four smaller domes and is further framed by a network of smaller spires. The majority of the building is built from red sandstone but there are some elements of marble in its ornamentation and sculptural decorations. The interior walls of the mosque display a series of intricate terracotta tilework which depict various Islamic motifs. The entrance of the mosque is framed by two lofty gateways which are decorated with an abundance of floral and geometric designs. The building also features a large open courtyard where worshippers can congregate for prayer. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
