Brief History:
Shahi Masjid, Adilabad is believed to have been built in early 1900s and later renovated in 1924 by Nawab Mir Taki Khan, the then Ruler of Adilabad State when it was a part of Hyderabad State. It is a classic example of Indian Islamic architecture with minarets, domes, and a grand central dome. The intricate designs on the walls are also noteworthy. This mosque is one of the most revered places of worship in Adilabad and is visited by a large number of devotees throughout the year. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Shahi Masjid in Adilabad is the oldest mosque in the region. It was built in 1798 by Adil Shah, the ruler of the Nizam District of the then Hyderabad State. It has an Indo-Islamic style of architecture typical of the era. The mosque has a rectangular plan and is built in a typical Andhra style with intricate Hindu motifs. The building has four main entrances and is surrounded by a wide platform. It consists of five domes covered with lime mortar. The central dome is the largest and is decorated in Mughal and Persian tradition of a cart wheel design. The interiors of the mosque are beautifully adorned with intricate stucco work and Islamic calligraphy. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
