The Sarangadesvara Temple (also known as Tiruvagnisvara Temple) at Chittur is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is believed to have been built during the 12th century and is a fine example of ancient South Indian architecture. History:
The most prominent feature of the Sarangadesvara Temple is the magnificent vimana (or tower) which stands above the main sanctum. This tower is elaborately carved with geometric and floral motifs and is tall and slender, making it an impressive sight. The temple also features intricately carved reliefs depicting scenes from the Hindu epics as well as sculptures of Hindu deities.
