Overview:
devi Ruins is a ruined temple complex located in the Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh, India. The ruins are believed to be 4000 years old, and are 1 km away from Bharatkund, a nearby village. The temple complex consists of several ruined temples dedicated to Hindu and Jain gods. The main shrines of the complex are those of Sankara, Krishna, and Shyama. The temple complex is surrounded by a tank and lies in a valley encircled by the Bundelkhand hills. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The ruins of Sankhadevi consist of several ruined temples and the main attractions are the Sankara, the Krishna and Shyama Temples. The Sankara temple is believed to be the earliest, while the Krishna and Shyama temples were constructed later. The ruins of the temples have many sculptures depicting Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, and a host of gods, goddesses, and other Hindu and Jain deities.
