Overview:
The Sakhar temple is a ruined 11th-Century temple dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. It is located in Wai, a small town in Satara district of Maharashtra, India. This temple was built during the reign of the Western Chalukyas and is a fine example of the trikutachala style of architecture. Sakhar Temple (Ruined Shiva Temple )This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The temple complex follows the standard trikutachala temple layout, with three chambers forming the innermost part of the temple. The main sanctum houses a Shiva Lingam. In the inner space, at a height of approximately 15 feet, there are two small shrines which form an integral part of the temple. The Sakhar temple was built during the later Chalukya period, during the reign of the Western Chalukyas.
