Overview:
ncy Cemetery, also known as Station Burial Ground, is the partially restored cemetery in the center of Isfahan, Iran. It was introduced in the initial time of the Safavid Dynasty for the maintenance of burial grounds, and consists of several tombs, each with its own distinct style. These tombs contain the remains of British officers and soldiers who had either died during their term as officers or as refugees in Persia. It is said that during the First World War, the cemetery was also used for burying fallen Indian soldiers. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Prominent features of Residency Cemetery include a variety of tombs, both free-standing and walled, with inscriptions in a range of languages and styles. The oldest tomb dates back to the early days of the Safavid Dynasty, suggesting that this cemetery could have been in use since early on. Each of the tombs is marked by its own distinct style and construction. Most of the tombs are made of brick, with some also made of stone. Some of the tombs have inscriptions in English, while others have inscriptions in Persian, Farsi, and even Greek. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
