Overview:
nganath Doul is an ancient era Indian temple, located in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. It is also known as the temple of Inspiration. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and dates back to 11th century. The temple boasts of a unique architectural structure and sculptures, which are a great example of engineering, art and craftsmanship of the past. It is believed that the temple was constructed during the reign of King Raja Bhanu, the eldest son of Eastern Ganga dynasty ruler AnangBhima III. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The massive temple complex is renowned for its intricate carvings and sculptures which are primarily done in the Odishan style. The temple walls are embellished with finely carved images of gods, goddesses, beasts, birds and mythical creatures. The ceilings are supported by eight singularly carved columns and four rows of ornately fluted pillars. The ceiling is also decorated with ornamental carvings and patterns. Ranganath Doul is a very old temple that was constructed in the 11th century by the Eastern Ganga dynasty rulers. The temple was badly destroyed during the Konar invasion in the 18th century. It was later reconstructed by the Imperial Gajapati rulers in 1830. The temple was initially managed by the Gajapati Kings of Odisha, however it is currently managed by the Paramanic Matha (an eminent Vyas Order of Hindu Monasticism).
