Overview:
Old Mosque In The Fort, Vellore is an exquisite monument located inside the historic Vellore Fort. It was built in 15th century by Bijapur Sultanate of Halebid, who had conquered this part of the North Arcot district during their rule in South India. This unique and beautiful mosque is one of the oldest surviving mosques in India, and is considered as an excellent example of the Indo-Islamic style of architecture. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Old Mosque In The Fort, Vellore features a charm of its own, due to its traditional structure, white domes, circular minarets and carved arches. The entrance of the mosque is made up of a huge arch, which is flanked on either side by barrel-vaulted structures. Inside the mosque, there are five horseshoe arches, which are enclosed within a half circular shaped mihrab niche. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
