Mahadev Temple is a Hindu temple located in the Bhojpur district of Madhya Pradesh, India. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is believed to have been built in the 10th century by the ruler of the Paramara dynasty. The temple is considered one of the most important archaeological sites in India due to its exquisite beauty and antiquity. Overview:

The Mahadev Temple stands out among other temples in the region due to its characteristic style of architecture and sculptural ornaments. Located at a distance of approximately 60 km from Bhopal, the temple is a great attraction in the nearby area. The temple is built entirely from sandstone and is surrounded by a large plinth and several mandapas. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.

History:

The temple has a pyramidal structure which is divided into three tiers - Mahadwara (Main entrance), Mukhamandapa (Central Hall), and Devastana (Sanctuary). The Mahadwara consists of two 24-meter tall towers and a vestibule which is decorated with sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses. The Mukhamandapa is adorned with finely-crafted sculptures of many mythological scenes. At the centre of this tier, there is a shallow well which is believed to be filled with divine water.
