Overview:
Neelkantha (Nilkantheswar) is a renowned Hindu temple located on the banks of the Kali River in Uttarakhand, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is revered in Hinduism as the protector and the destroyer of the world. It is believed that the temple was established around 5,000 years ago, during the ancient Mahabharata war, and has since been renowned as one of the holies places in India by Hindus all over the world. Neelkantha (Nilkantheswar) This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The main feature of the temple is the Shivling which is believed to be one of the Jyotirlingas, which is a form of Lord Shiva. According to legend, Lord Shiva himself appeared here on this holy site in the form of a blue-hued light and is thus considered to be one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
