,Bahana Pukur Mound or Fort, is an ancient historic site located in the small town of Bahana, West Bengal, India. The area is believed to have been inhabited since the 6th century BC, and it is said that the great warrior Chandragupta Maurya had set up a fort here. In the 13th century, the Sultan of Delhi had also built fortifications here.
The mound is made up of large rectangular blocks and is believed to have been constructed mainly with clay bricks. It measures around 500 by 400 meters and the site includes moats, ramparts and other fortification features.
The most distinct feature of the mound is a four-meter wide trench that runs lengthwise along it. The trenches were dug to increase the site’s defensive strength and help protect it from enemy attacks.
The site is also known for its historical significance and has been visited by numerous archaeologists and historians throughout the years.
