Brief History:
: Mehdipatnam Masjid, Secunderabad-built by Wali Bahadur in 1766-67, is one of the oldest mosques in Hyderabad, India. An important religious site for Muslims, it is the largest masjid in the city. The structure features four minarets and seven domes, and the interior walls are decorated with calligraphy. This masjid is categorized as a heritage building. It also serves as a venue for religious activities such as congregational Friday prayers and the observance of major religious festivals. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Mehdipatnam Masjid in Secunderabad was built by Nawab Bakht Khan during the latter’s rule over Hyderabad in the early 19th century. The mosque stands in a courtyard, with four minarets marking its four corners. Its architecture is typical of Mughal architecture, with a central dome, prayer hall, and a single minbar. Its walls are plastered and purely decorated with terracotta ornamentation and colourful fretwork. The mosque is a classic example of both the local and the Mughal style of architecture. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
