thic Cists and Cairns, Madayathur is an important archaeological site in Kerala, India. It is located about 8 km from Thrissur town in the eastern bank of Bharathamatha River and is known for a Neolithic – Iron Age cairns, stone circles, megalithic cists, stone burials, and other megalithic features. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The site is located in a hilly terrain and consists of several monuments of megalithic significance. These are round cairns and cists made of granite stones and boulders, stone circles, and trenches or ditches cutting through the bed rock of the land. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
Interesting facts:
During the earliest exploration of the site, two gold objects were recovered from two separate grave sites, which are believed to have belonged to the Neolithic-Iron Age population.
