kkadu Burial Site,Tirukkattalai is an archaeological site located on the Polichalur-Tirukkattalai road in Tamil Nadu, India. It is identified as belonging to the megalithic culture of Iron Age South India. The site was first discovered in 1996 and is dated to around 1,200 BCE by archeologists in 2019. It is one of the largest excavated megalithic burial sites in South India. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Kalasakkadu Burial Site,Tirukkattalai is prominent for its burial site which is estimated to consist of over 600 megalithic burials. The site consists of huge capstones, cairns, underground chambers and other structures, which are intricately associated with the burial remains. The capstones range from one to two meters in length and exhibit hand chisel marks and decorative symbols of hammering. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour

The burial site at Kalasakkadu was first discovered in 1996 by the local villagers. However, it was not until 2019 when the Archaeological Survey of India conducted a systematic study of the site. Radiocarbon dating of the finds confirmed that the artefacts found at the site belonged to the period of 1,400 BCE to 1,200 BCE. The burial site continues to be a subject of research and excavation, with ongoing studies revealing new interesting facts.
