Janjira Fort is an ancient monument located at Murud town of Raigad district in the state of Maharashtra in India. The history of Janjira Fort dates back to the 15th century when it was built by the Siddi rulers. It is one of the few existing forts built by the Siddi dynasty in Maharashtra. According to popular legends, the fort was built by Malik Amber, the Prime Minister of Adil Shah for protecting the kingdom from the Portuguese. The fort was put under the siege in 1689 and 1690 from the British and Marathas forces, but it did not surrender.
