Janjira Fort: Janjira Fort is an ancient monument located at Murud town of Raigad district in the state of Maharashtra in India. It is a historical fort that encompasses the Arabian Sea in its entirety, making it a popular tourist destination spot. Janjira Fort is a magnificent architectural marvel with its grand exteriors and imposing structure. It is spread across an area of 32 acres and is surrounded by the pristine Arabian Sea from all the sides. The fort stands strong even after being challenged by the nature’s fury for many centuries. The fort has a total of 19 towers in its complex, out of which 5 are in the main walls. There are two entrances to the fort- Asheri Gate, situated on the land boundary and the Gangeshwar Gate, located in the sea. The beauty of the Janjira Fort lies in its grand architecture and splendid structures. It is a combination of architectural styles of Arabian and the Portuguese. The history of Janjira Fort dates back to the 15th century when it was built by the Siddi rulers. It is one of the few existing forts built by the Siddi dynasty in Maharashtra. According to popular legends, the fort was built by Malik Amber, the Prime Minister of Adil Shah for protecting the kingdom from the Portuguese. The fort was put under the siege in 1689 and 1690 from the British and Marathas forces, but it did not surrender. Afterward, the fort was taken over by the Angres in 1733 and remained under the Angre Empire for over 200 years. Janjira Fort
