Spread over an area of 14 acres, Hazarduari Palace Imambara is a well-known tourist destination and a major example of architecture. The palace complex has many buildings, galleries and museums, such as the Tipu Sultan Mosque, the Nizamat Imambara, an armory museum and a clock tower. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Hazarduari Palace Imambara is classified as an Indo-Saracenic building, with features of Mughal and Rajput styles of architecture. The palace has an oval plan, which is surrounded by galleries, verandahs and balconies, which provide a great view of the surroundings. The main building of the palace was extended by maintaining the old structure, as it was in use as a residential palace before. This grand palace was originally built in 1804 by Nawab Murshid Quli Khan. After him, the Nawab of Bengal, Nawab Humayun Jah became responsible for the completion of the palace in its current form. After its completion, the palace served as the residence of the nawabs. When the British took control of Murshidabad, the Hazarduari Palace Imambara was used to store the arms and weapons of the Bengal Army.
