It was built in the late 18th century by Nawab Asaf ud-Daula and is noted for its impressive red and white architecture. The Alambagh Gate is popularly known as Chhattar Manzil and is a sprawling complex consisting of several buildings, most notably a sprawling palace and two mansions, known as the Chhattar Manzil and the Musa Bagh. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Alambagh Bhavan and Gate features a unique combination of Indo-Saracenic architecture and ornate designs with red domes and intricate carvings along its terraces, walls and arches. The complex also houses a clock tower, a mosque, a minar, a pond and a set of lavish ballrooms. Alambagh Bhavan and Gate was built in 1784 under the auspices of Nawab Asaf ud-Daula, the then ruler of Awadh. The construction was completed in 1786 and it remained a royal residence until 1858, when it was taken over by the British forces. Since then it has been used as a centre for administration and is currently maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.
