Overview:
Gop (Sun) Temple is a wonder of Hindu architecture, creating a mystical atmosphere with its unique geometrical designs. Built in the 13th century, the temple is spread across an area of 7 acres and comprises of parts such as sun hall, gateway temple, and dancing hall. The temple has colorful sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses, musicians, musicians and dancers, decked with jewelry and flowers. History:
The temple has a captivating surrounding created by nature which is said to have inspired its builders and makes you feel like you are walking through a monumental piece of art. The most distinctive feature of this temple is the 12 wheels that surround the main temple which represent the 12 months of the year. There are 24 stone horses which signify the 24 hour cycle of a day.The temple is full of exquisite stone figurines, intricate carvings and sculptures of warriors, musicians and deity figures. Gop (Sun) Temple was built during the reign of King Narasimhadeva I of Eastern Ganga dynasty in the 13th century. The mortal remains of the temple was demolished due to an attack by Muslim rulers.
